Lance Aue (1953-2017)

By Paul Rudoff on Jul. 15, 2017 at 7:01 PM , Categories: Personal, Tributes
(circa 2011, from the NassauARES.net website)

The person I will be memorializing today has no connection to the Ghostbusters fandom, though I'm sure he loved the original movie almost as much as the rest of us. I'm not intending on turning Spook Central into a tribute site (though there has been enough to have their own category), but it would not have felt right not doing this for Lance.

Rest In Peace, My Mother - Linda Rudoff

I'm going through a bad case of deja vu. Last year I lost my father, and last night my mother, Linda Joyce Rudoff, passed away at the age of 67.

I really don't even know how it got to this point. She originally took ill on September 9th, but was continually making progress every week, with the occasional setback. If anything, she seemed closer to death when this all started than she has been recently. This was completely unexpected. Those of you who follow me personally on Facebook will have been following along every step of the way these past eleven and a half weeks. In lieu of writing more to this blog post, I'll just repost all of my Facebook updates, which will show you the highs and lows of this whole ordeal.

Doreen Mulman (1961-2014)

By Paul Rudoff on Mar. 14, 2014 at 11:30 PM , Categories: Personal, Fans, Tributes

It is with great sadness that I report that my dear friend, Doreen Mulman, passed away today at the young age of 52. I spoke with her roommate and our mutual friend, Nora Salisbury, who told me that she died of an apparent heart attack sometime after 9:00 am. [4/14/2014 UPDATE - I e-mailed Nora to inquire about the official cause of death and she told me that "on the death certificate it says primary cause was arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease and secondary cause was congestive heart failure". So, essentially it was a heart attack that took our beloved Doreen :-( ]

For those of you who weren't around in the early days of the Ghostbusters online community, Doreen was a co-creator and co-webmistress of The Ghostbusters Fan Forum, which was the ultimate resource for fan artwork, writings, and other fan contributions (before these things were commonplace thanks to social networking sites). An Extreme Ghosthead since the 1980s, I was honored when Doreen accepted my request to be an admin on the Spook Central Facebook page. (Her last post was on February 28, 2014, which was a link to an article about the minor league baseball team, the Toledo Mud Hens, wearing Ghostbusters-inspired uniforms for a May 30th game in honor of the film's 30th anniversary and Harold Ramis' recent death.)

Harold Ramis (1944-2014)

By Paul Rudoff on Feb. 24, 2014 at 11:30 PM , Categories: Cast & Crew, Tributes

It is with great sadness that I report that Harold "Egon" Ramis passed away today at the young age of 69. Death must have a fondness for the number 69, but not in the same way that we humans do :-) My father died a little over a month ago at age 69, and his mother (my grandmother) and his uncle (my great uncle) also died at that age.

I knew the day would come when one of the "big stars" of the films would die, but I never thought that day would come so soon...and especially not on the cusp of the franchise's 30th anniversary. If anyone still had hopes for a Ghostbusters 3, this pretty much kills any chance of that happening. Even if they went with a new crew, and the original guys just showed up for cameos, there would always be the loss of Harold hanging over the project. Maybe now we can finally put Ghostbusters 3 to rest and not have it brought up every time one of the film stars is interviewed.

Just a thought: The Academy Awards event is being held this Sunday. I wonder if it's too late for Harold to be included in the In Memoriam segment.

Anyway, Ghostbusters News has an article up with some quotes from Harold's Ghostbusters co-stars and other celebrities paying their respects to the man.

After the jump are a few photos, videos, and interview links about Harold that I gathered from my archives.

Rest In Peace, My Father - Joel Rudoff

It is with a heavy heart and a great deal of loss that I'm writing this message to inform all of my dear friends and online associates of the passing of my father, Joel Richard Rudoff, at the age of 69.

This was certainly NOT the first post of 2014 that I intended to write. I was actually hoping that post would be to happily report that I bought a new computer; a purchase that may happen at a much later date, or not at all at this point.
