Since they say “worldwide release,” I’m going to bet that it’s pretty damn sure to release in more than just Europe. As for why they only mention Sony publishing it in Europe, I’m going to have to say that it means that Atari will be publishing the PSP version here, just like the other versions. I wonder how the PSP version will be different.

Yeah, that’s what I think it means, too.

I just find it a bit odd that in the same sentence it says that the PSP version is scheduled for “worldwide launch", but then it only specifically mentions it being “published in Europe by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe". Why not make specific mention of Atari publishing it for PSP in North America, too?

Still, the third line of bold headlines at the top does say exactly: “PSP(PlayStation Portable) Version Coming Worldwide Autumn 2009″. So I’ll take that at face value until I hear otherwise.

I’m guessing the PSP is just a PS2 port. The only other option would probably be a whole new game. I can’t imagine them putting the PS3 version on the PSP, but maybe I have sorely underestimated the PSP’s gaming graphics power and capabilities? All I do know is that it most likely won’t be the double screen/touch sensitive DS version.

I have to agree with you, Boyer. I think it’s a safe bet that the PSP version will be a port of the PS2 version.

Like you said, it won’t be a DS port due to the PSP not having the two screens and touch sensitivity. The PSP isn’t as powerful as the PS3, Xbox 360, or even a PC capable of running the game, so that eliminates the “realistic version” (as I call it). For obvious reasons it won’t be a Wii port, and there’s no time to put together a completely new version, so that leaves a PS2 port as the only choice.

It makes sense as there have been a bunch of PSP games that made their way onto the PS2: the GTA “Stories” games, Twisted Metal: Head-On, Silent Hill Origins, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters - and I think one or two others. So with some tweaking, they could (presumably) easily port the other way around, from PS2 to PSP.

If Sony is smart, they’ll bundle the old Ghostbusters movie UMD with the PSP version. Sure the UMD is no match for the DVD, much less the Blu Ray, but I think both make for a nice bundle. Throw in a PSP skin, or even a special Ghostbusters-themed “slime green” PSP unit, and you’ve got a nice bundle. If they’re going to make PSP owners wait so longer for the game (which will undoubtedly be a PS2 port), they might as well make it worth it for them.

Anyway, personally speaking the news of the PSP version doesn’t affect me as the only handheld I have is the GBA, which Nintendo promptly pushed aside about a year or two after I bought it. I’m still getting the PC and PS2 versions, and praying that the PC version doesn’t have some wickedly evil DRM.
