On Friday June 7th and Saturday June 8th 2019, Wizard World and Sony Pictures held the first ever Ghostbusters Fan Fest. What transpired at the event? Read on the find out...

Before I continue, let me make it clear that I did NOT attend Ghostbusters Fan Fest. Everything you're about to read has been put together through extensive research online.

A lot of Ghostheads, such as myself, actually wanted to attend the Fest. Unfortunately, Wizard World decided to set the general admission price at a whopping $150, which was well beyond what most fans could afford - especially since most also had to pay for travel, lodging, and car rental expenses. Even that general admission fee was a "last minute change of heart" from Wizard World, who previously listed a minimum package of $500, with the maximum package going well over $1,000!!! Granted, those elite packages included swag and other benefits, but until they offered the general admission, you NEEDED to pay for the $500 package just to get into the event. A representative from Wizard World contacted me as part of a mass-mailing to all cosplay franchises (of which I am not), and after exchanging a message or two, he ghosted me. That ended all chance of Spook Central covering the event; and I even have a friend who lives in California that could have attended to represent Spook Central and help provide coverage for the site. Oh, well. Hopefully if Sony does another Fan Fest, they'll get a better company to organize it than Wizard World. Even those who attended were greatly disappointed with the way Wizard World handled it.

Anyway... The event started in earnest on the evening of June 7th with a screening of the original Ghostbusters at The Globe Theater in downtown Los Angeles. At 7:00PM (all times are henceforth Pacific), the movie was introduced by Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, William Atherton, Ivan Reitman, and Jason Reitman. Some photos from the event appears on the Official Globe Theater Facebook page. A video of the introduction appears in the playlist further down this article.

The following day, the real festivities took place at the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City. Attendees received a beautiful 16-page program book, which features exclusive cover artwork by fan favorite comic artist Dan Schoening. Among the things you'll find inside is the programming schedule, an article about the franchise by comic writer Erik Bernham, some trivia, and article about Violet Ramis Stiel, and a behind-the-scenes look at Ectotron from the Transformers/Ghostbusters crossover. Click on the cover below to download a PDF eBook, which is a joint collaboration between Ghostbusters News and Spook Central. Jason Fitzsimmons scanned in his book, Matthew Jordan helped to fix up the images a little bit, and I assembled them into a PDF. The file below uses reduced 150dpi scans. Ghostbusters News is hosting the original 300dpi version (30 Mb).

Now, I could sit here and go over the full list of panels, but I already added an extensive amount of data and images to the Ghostbusters Wiki, so there's no need for me to duplicate all of that here. Instead, I have embedded a YouTube playlist of the 26 best videos I could find covering the day's events. Sadly, I could not find videos of all panels and performances.

Please note that the video titles written by the video uploaders are included in italics and parenthesis after my "true" titles/descriptions below.

All of the videos should be pretty self-explanatory, though you might want to read over the detailed text and notes on the Ghostbusters Wiki (I wrote a lot of it) if anything is confusing to you. I will point out a few things of note:

• The "I Ain't Afraid of No Toys" panel about the Kenner The Real Ghostbusters toyline includes a fantastic display of images, promotional artwork, and commercials for the line.

• The "How'd They Do That?" panel is not complete (as far as I can tell) and may or may not be in the proper order. I had to take some educated guesses since I wasn't there myself. Richard Edlund, Sheldon Kahn, and the third person showed two workprint clips from Ghostbusters, which lack the special effects shots. The first is from when Dana opens her fridge. The other is Stay Puft's entrance, which has an extra line from Ray ("It was on all of the packages") and the "EPA" deleted scene with Peck and the cop (as this was the source used for the 1999 DVD).

• The Lost 1984 Footage panel with Jason Reitman and Ivan Reitman features five sets of dailies that were found in a mine in Kansas a few days before the event:
     1. Mayor's Office Alternate Takes: Nerve Gas, No Genitalia, Have Peck Over For Lunch/Whatta Ya Got.
     2. Louis, Egon, Janine in Firehouse Alternate Takes.
     3. Dana's Apartment Alternate Takes.
     4. Ray Drinks Near LED Machine Deleted Scene.
     5. Hotel Ballroom Alternate Exit Lines.

Below is a list of the missing panels and performances. If you know where videos of these can be found, or if you have a better (and complete) copy of any of the videos above (namely the ones broken into parts or cluttered with on-screen graphics), feel free to post the url in the comments section below.

12:15PM - LA Follies Performance
12:30PM - The Ghosts of Ghostbusters: Fact V Fiction
12:30PM - Ghostbusters in Video Games
12:30PM - Cleaning Up the Town: Remembering Ghostbusters Screening
1:15PM - Ghostbusters Trivia
1:30PM - Flux Capacitors Live Performance
1:30PM - Ghostbusters Comics
2:00PM - Back Off Man! I'm a Parapsychologist (need the actual panel, the documentary itself is in the above playlist)
2:30PM - Your Proton Pack and You
2:30PM - Who You Gonna Call? Documentary Screening and Ray Parker Jr Q&A
3:00PM - Flux Capacitors Live Performance
3:00PM - Meet the Extreme People Behind the Extreme Ghostbusters!
3:30PM - Ghostbusters: The Video Game - An Inside Look
3:30PM - How to Draw Your Favorite Ghosts
4:30PM - Ghostbusters Art Auction
6:30PM - Live Performance from Ray Parker Jr! (the night time 7:45PM - performance has been found, but not the earlier "warm up")

And, well, that is that. This article was originally going to provide extensive details on the event, but I kinda blew my wad on the Ghostbusters Wiki article that there was no point in redoing the work. So, this whole thing ends up being a collaboration between Spook Central, Ghostbusters News, and Ghostbusters Wiki. Each site gives you something unique in the documenting and archiving of the event. Again, eternal thanks to Jason Fitzsimmons and Matthew Jordan. This wouldn't have been possible without your contributions to the cause.
