Ghostbusters Video Game Box Backs & Specs

Looks great! Thanks for the peek. Have you seen the new ghostbustersgame.com site with the “We’re ready to believe you” commercial?
I could almost not believe it when I realized the PC version has NO ONLINE FEATURES! Your little trivia/editorial says it all.
I am extremely disappointed in both Sony and Atari for raping the PC version and leaving it in the dark with it’s underwear on backwards.
They cripple the game with online activation AND remove any online capabilities? How many copies of games sell *just* because you can’t play online without a retail copy, and they scuttle the online play?
Atari is super smart.
No sale for me.
Be sure to email Terminal Reality and let them know you won’t be buy their game for any price without online multiplayer.
So apparently some genius over at Atari/Terminal Reality decided to silently axe online multiplayer from the upcoming PC version of the Ghostbusters game despite everything said in previous interviews and previews? Pity. I’ve been waiting for a continuation of the Ghostbusters plot literally all my life, but I’m not tolerating this. No sale, canceling my reservation. I’ll just watch the story on YouTube when someone posts the cutscenes up.
It’s quite a shame, since the Ghostbusters franchise is so jealously guarded by Sony that I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re going to be deciding whether to green light other major Ghostbusters things (such as the third movie) on the basis of how well this game sells.
Since one of my earliest memories (if not the earliest) is that of running around as a toddler wearing the large Kenner-made Proton Pack, it rather stings to decide not to participate.
This is to say nothing of the DRM the PC version is getting.
So DRM and no multiplayer? No thanks!
seeing how bad they fudged Alone in the Dark last summer I’m not crossing fingers.. I don’t have a duo core, but i have an x1950 512… i can play most of the latest games (yes, Crysis) and they look completely fine. I can’t believe a 3rd person Ghostbusters game is claiming to REQUIRE duo core.. hell.. it’s not “next gen” or anything.. just looks like a great GB game (for what that’s worth).
I’m buying the game on 360 anyway – via xbox-live with headsets will be the best way to play – but the PC version getting no MP love definately sucks. :(
Thanks for the hi-res scan of the GB PC cover, now I can cancel my pre-order, pirate it and still get the box. And people wonder why piracy on PC is so common. The idea of fucking up a product to sell more copies hasn’t caught on anywhere else in history, but they seem to think it’s a great strategy for PC games.
I swear they are trying to kill this game. First they delay the release of Ghostbusters in some parts of the world by months doing nothing but ENCORAGING piracy but then they go and take multiplayer away from the PC version AND give us DRM. Myself and some mates were really looking forward to buying the game and playing it multiplayer online (which IS the best form of piracy protection bar none) but alas I see multiple lost sales instead…
They WILL put bad game sales down to rampant piracy on the PC instead of their totally illogical and retarded decisions. The sad part is they couldn’t possibly be stupid enough not to be aware of the repercussions so… was Ghostbusters sabotaged on purpose?
I think that they just didn’t have enough time to do up all-new multiplayer code. The PC port is likely taken directly from the Xbox 360 code (indeed, one could make a case for a 360 being a PC with a very predictable hardware setup), but PCs don’t exactly work with Xbox Live.
Having said that, it would not surprise me to see multiplayer added back in via a patch about a month down the road, when the team can concentrate on that sole issue instead of getting all versions out the door on time. So chill out on the butthurt and conspiracy theories (deliberate sabotage? REALLY?!), the multiplayer may merely be DELAYED.
Quite frankly, I’m not buying it for the multiplayer, I’m buying it for the single player. From what I hear, the multiplayer’s nothing to write home about, anyway.
Oh, and let me add that the PC version of Ghostbusters is HALF the price of the console versions. You get what you pay for.
Cue the nerdrage directed at me for daring to put things in perspective.
PC versions of games cost less than for consoles because the publishers have to pay to put them on the systems. Why? Because Microsoft and Sony have to recoup the losses they take with every system they sell. You get what you pay for.
You don’t know so many things…
How bout you PC guys go get a job and buy a console? Online PC multiplayer was cool when I was 13, nowadays it’s lame. I’m a fan of multiplayer, but this is actually a game I WANT to play single player. Don’t be hatin’ cause you’re a cheap ass when it comes to games. Like Saborlas said, “you get what you pay for". CONSOLES are the present, PC is the PAST. Better recamuthafuckinize.
According to Cheat happens reviews there is multiplayer for PC. Stop spreading FALSE INFORMATION.
False Information!? It’s a picture of the goddamn BOX COVER for the game!!!
Stop living in denial, the PC version got axed, and that’s it (sadly)
@Kal-Hell CONSOLES are the present, PC is the PAST
It’s actually a cycle like this: PC on the TOP -> Console launch -> Consoles RULEZ -> Consoles Sucks! Back to PC! -> PC on the TOP again
Your right Saborlas. It hurts, but your right. I felt like i was getting the shaft but im also only paying 30$ But im still a little peeved that their is no character customization. Although im still going to the midnight release and not going to sleep for 3 days while i rock out GB.
I live in Germany and the PC version is delayed to October. Does the American PC version have German audio? According to some rumours the Xbox-version has it …
In response to Saborlas, while I don’t really feel the need to nerd rage, I would like to ask you to clarify one thing: How many games in recent memory (or ever) can you remember having multiplayer added after release? And if that’s to be the case, why hasn’t Atari/Terminal Reality come out in the past to say “Look, the PC version won’t have the same feature set at launch, but we will work on it as soon as the game goes gold.”
Instead, we’ve had endless previews touting online multiplayer/co op, and the only reason we know there’s no multiplayer now is because someone compared the back of the box. Had you read their previews and pre-ordered the game from somewhere with release-day shipping, you’d have no way of finding out. That’s just bad business practice.
As for the half-price cost, that doesn’t really do much to assuage our upset over the fact that for that half price we’ll get a one-playthrough game (10 hours, totally linear, no DLC) while the consoles can go back again and again with new content, multiplayer and coop. Its like getting a painting of the Mona Lisa 50% off, but with the background unfinished; sure, you’ve got the core of the painting, but its just not as nice to look at, and you’re ashamed to hang it on the wall.
after reading everything on this, i have seen multi-player for pc in older reviews and when talking to the teams putting this game together. if tomorrow when i install the game and i see no option for multi player, i think a class action lawsuit would be in order for false advertising. also a quick return to game stop for a full refund.
And in response to Kal-Hell, the PC will always have an advantage over the consoles in a few areas; first person shooters are more fluid with a keyboard/mouse, RTS games are clumsy, unwieldy beasts without a keyboard/mouse, and many games with dedicated mod communities outlast their console counterparts by decades (Morrowind is still going strong for some people.) Digital Distribution services like Steam show active communities for PC players for games like Counterstrike, Team Fortress 2 and Left4Dead to be in the millions. And tiny games like World of Warcraft (Over 11.5 million players) or the slightly less popular Free Realms (4 million players now? 3.5?)
It’s a little premature to announce the death of the PC as a gaming medium; it was premature when people announced its death when the N64 or the PSX came out, it was premature when the PS2/Xbox came out. The PC will always just be better at some things, until consoles make keyboard/mouse a mandatory add-on.
The copy of Atari’s Official Multiplayer Factsheet (sent out March 2, 2009) that they sent to me (and I think is still on their Press site) specifically does NOT mention the PC. The copy of the same document posted over at Kombo does mention the PC, but Kombo editors could have added it in under the assumption that multiplayer would be in the PC version. I always go by the files I get straight from Atari until I see otherwise.
In this case, a comparison of the three box backs (PS3, Xbox, PC) shows three screen shot boxes on the first two, and only two screen shot boxes on the PC. The one missing from the PC: the multiplayer box. Add to that the PC specs which state that online connectivity is ONLY needed for activation and not at any other time, says to me that the PC doesn’t have multiplayer.
The manual doesn’t make any mention of multiplayer, either. So without even putting the disc in, I have three things right there on the packaging/in the manual that tell me that there’s no multiplayer. I doubt that they would have left multiplayer details off the box and out of the manual out of sloppiness. If anything, sloppiness would have been if they left the information ON the box when the multiplayer isn’t there.
It could be argued that there’s no room for it on the disc, but they could have made it a two-disc game, with each being a dual-layer DVD-ROM.
Or you could just get an Xbox 360… If you can afford to have a system stable enough to play graphic heavy games such as this as well as a decent internet connection, you should be able to get Xbox 360 with a Live account.
Now, I’m saying that because I’m reading all of the “Cancelling reservation, this is an outrage!” comments. It does suck for the PC gamers that these features are left out, but I have a Gaming PC myself, and I find it much better to use a console for video games rather than the PC. Moreso the Xbox 360, because I refuse to buy a PS3 until there is a price drop.
200 bucks for the Arcade version//Replacement plan at Best Buy is the best way to go. That’s about like 30 extra, good for two years. I turned mine in after a year, and because of the price drop, they refunded me the difference, and renewed my plan, so I got about 80 dollars back, and a brand new console. I’m very satisfied.
Go get a job and buy a console? Your post just goes to show that people who think consoles are a superior platform for gaming don’t have the IQ to own a PC. Consoles are cheaper than PC’s dumbass! I also own a Wii and a 360, the Wii hardly gets touched and all the 360 gets used for is watching xvids and the occasional Street Fighter 4 when mates are over.
It must be deliberate sabotage on the PC version as as was stated in the above article, online multiplayer was invented on PC, there is absolutely no reason not to include it in any PC game.
Read the IGN PC review, DEFINATELY no mulitplayer for PC.

What an absolute kick in the balls to PC gamers. This has easily pissed me off more than anything else I’ve seen in my years and years of gaming.

Ok the problem with that statement is my PC cost WAY more than any stupid console out there, and it was built for gaming. Dont tell us to go out and get jobs just so we can buy lame ass consoles. My pc for instance was built about 4 months ago and cost about $3200. PC gaming today kicks ass. Consoles suck. I refuse to own any console. If you really look at it from a tech’s point of view (as I am an IT professional) Console hardware including the wii, ps3, especially the xbox360 are YEARS old. Didnt nvidia just launch the newest generation of video cards such as the GTX295 Co-Op edition with extreme superclock? (i have 3 of them in SLi mode) Didnt Intel bring out the Core i7 recently? Solid State hard drives are out now too? 7.1 Digital THX surround from the PC? Total High Def in 1080p from the PC? I’d like to see an xbox360 or even the elite do full true 1080p and be able to keep up with my gaming rig. Most you’ll ever see from an xbox360 elite or otherwise is 1080i and then it will upconvert to 1080p.
Just the hardware alone in the PC world far exceeds any retarded ass console. Plus, you are not forced into creating some gay ass douche bag avitar just to play the damn game thats in your xbox360 cd drive.
Dont be a tool and just rant that consoles are the best ever when they are not even close. At least open your mind a little to the pc world. go to the hardcore gaming sites and look at the hardware. Custom build the machine dont just go to dell, hp, acer etc and get a ready made. its like fast food of the pc world.
The ONLY console i’d ever own is a wii. the rest of them can eat it.
To Burn0u7:
Knock it off. Yeah, it is true sometimes PC gaming can be a lot better. I myself feel that playing a first person shooter on a computer gives me an advantage over people playing on a console. And sometimes they release games on PC you just can’t get on console.
That being said, I can’t really appreciate a $3,200.00. Computers are expensive. Enough said. You can tout how much expensive your computer is you all you want.
But fact is, most games that are multi-console (including computer) pretty much look the same. The Xbox 360 edition of the game looks just as good as the computer edition of the game, those people paid less and they will have less problems then everyone else running a computer.
I can’t tell you how much I hate PC gaming some times. With compatability issues, expensive hardware, bandwidth issues and more, console gaming can be considered superior. You buy the game, you put it in the system and you play it. Case closed.
You don’t have to check and re-check system specs, worry about viruses, you don’t have to worry about your system playing it or not, you don’t even have to worry about being online in order to play it because there is no online DRM. It is 100% more hassle free then PC gaming.
Everyone has their preferences, saying one side or another is superior is stupid. A computer is as good as the needs it meets for it’s users. The Xbox 360 and PS3 obviously meet the needs of their users, enough said.
You only make yourself out to be a fucking technophile by screaming about system power and costs. Stop being such a retard.
On a side note, you are not forced to make an avatar on Xbox Live. It is a extra option Microsoft provides to you. No one is getting their arm twisted. It is just something else added in to try and attempt to make the experience more enjoyable.
Also what is wrong with all of you screaming about multi-player? Am I the only person who remembers when most if not all games did NOT come with multi-player options, but were still played and considered good based on the game and story line. You are all spoiled.
Herbo, thanks for the link to the IGN review. That backs up what I wrote in my article, which was supported by the info on the back of the boxes, and puts this matter to rest once and for all.
As the matter has now been conclusively proven to be true, I’m closing these comments.
