- Title Reference: "Casting the Runes" is a 1911 story by M.R. James, which was adapted in 1957 as the British horror film "Night of the Demon" (trimmed and renamed "Curse of the Demon" in the US) starring Dana Andrews, Peggy Cummins, and Niall MacGinnis. This episode and the original story share the concept that a when a cursed item (a parchment paper in the original story) is discovered, it curses the "chosen one" (both use the same term) and a demon visits that person. Extreme Ghostbusters however differs with the original story as the demon doesn't kill the chosen one, but rather takes them to another dimension.
