The Real Ghostbusters: Complete Collection
Episode Guide Book & Liner Notes Essay

Included in the box set is a 52-page episode guide book, with a screen shot, a synopsis, and some trivia for each episode in the set. At the front of the book is an essay written by special features producer Andy Mangels (text below), and at the back is the list of box set credits. The individual volume releases contain a booklet inside the case which contains the same text as that respective volume's section of the book, along with a modified version of Andy's essay (text below), and the same credits page in the back (the title at top is, of course, changed to reflect each volume number). Below you will find the complete text of Andy's essay from the Complete Collection box set, as well as from the individual release of Volume 1. Switch back and forth between them to see the differences. One day you may be able to download a PDF containing the entire episode guide book here, but for now here's a scan of the book's front cover. Also, here is the front and back of the Volume 1 individual booklet.

If you're reading this booklet, you've already got The Real Ghostbusters: Complete Collection on DVD, and no doubt have noticed how cool it is. What follows is a brief look at the history of the series, and how this deluxe set came to be...

Spinning off from the box office mega-hit Ghostbusters (1984), the animated series The Real Ghostbusters debuted on ABC in September 1986 to tremendous ratings, critical acclaim, and an audience that ranged from kids to adults. The series functioned as a direct sequel to the movie, following New York's paranormal investigator team as they faced ghosts, goblins, trolls, demons, monsters and other creatures! In 1987, a syndicated version of The Real Ghostbusters aired Monday - Friday afternoons, while ABC continued to produce the Saturday-morning show.

The Real Ghostbusters eventually garnered a primetime special, and switched to a one-hour format in 1988, retitled Slimer! and The Real Ghostbusters. This later version added a series of Slimer! short cartoons, aimed at a younger audience, but wacky and clever enough to still appeal to older viewers. By the time the series finally ended in 1991, 134 half-hour episodes had been created, as well as 13 half-hour Slimer! episodes. The Real Ghostbusters was a hit in worldwide syndication, and also led to hugely successful toy lines, multiple comic book series, fan clubs and web pages that keep the ghostbusting spirit alive - or undead - today.

Today, many of the men and women who created The Real Ghostbusters cartoons are award-winning writers and directors or top-flight animators. In producing this set, we wanted to reflect the astonishing legacy and quality of the series, as well as give fans a look at exactly how the show was created, from every angle possible. That's why we created a lucky 13 hours of bonus features and interviewed 28 creators, pouring through their memories and file cabinets to showcase featurettes, innovative visual commentaries, introductions, scripts, art, storyboards and even the long-lost promotional pilot!

We've endeavored to make this the ultimate version of The Real Ghostbusters of which any fan could dream. Short of awakening in the firehouse to a shrill alarm, or finding Slimer's slime on your jumpsuit and proton pack, you're now armed and ready to have a great time. So, let's get to busting some ghosts!
