Ghostbusters: Afterlife Drink & Play Mini-Puft Figure Review

Some time around January 2022, Surprise Drinks USA added Ghostbusters: Afterlife to their popular "Drink & Play" line. The Ghostbusters: Afterlife Drink & Play series consists of six tiny Mini-Puft figures. Read on to find out more...

Before I get into this, I would like to send a HUGE THANK YOU to all of the Spook Central VIPs for providing the funds that allowed me to buy this item and review it for all of you. This item was NOT provided by the manufacturer.

The concept of the "Drink & Play" line is that each 10 fl oz (295 mL) bottle of flavored spring water (infused with vitamins) has a small toy attached to it. The plastic bottle is designed with a divot on the front in which a small yellow capsule is placed, and that capsule is secured to the bottle with the shrink-wrapped plastic label. Each "pregnant" bottle gives birth to a toy that kids can play with. (Most of the images in this article can be enlarged.)


The "Drink & Play" line includes a few different beverage flavors, but the Ghostbusters: Afterlife series is only available in Apple. (There have been no reports of other flavors.) The enlargement of the photo below will provide you with all of the nutritional information for the water, which is only 25 calories and contains 6 grams of carbohydrates (5 grams of total sugar) per bottle. The "Apple-Flavored Spring Water with Vitamins" tastes like watered-down apple juice because that's, essentially, what it is. It's not something I would have purchased had it not been for the Ghostbusters connection. Had it not been for the figure set, I would have only purchased one bottle, as the bottles themselves are exactly the same.


The figures are the real reason you would buy this, so let's delve into them.

Once you take the plastic wrap off the bottle, you would then pluck the capsule out of the divot and open it up.


Inside you will find the tiny 1.5" tall figure and a checklist.


The checklist shows all six Mini-Pufts in the set. I have marked up the image with numbers to better identify each figure, though the enlargement is unmarked.


Because the company had to make the figures fit in a capsule of a specific size, there isn't much difference between the six Mini Puft figures in the set. Some of the little guys look nearly identical. You will need to study the photo checklist in order to see the differences... or let me do it for you.


Puft #1 - Arms down and back, standing on one foot.
Puft #2 - Happy with both arms up.


Puft #3 - Happy with left arm up and right arm halfway down.
Puft #4 - Sticking tongue out, arms down.


Puft #5 - Happy, both arms down by sides, both legs on the ground.
Puft #6 - Happy, both arms in front of chest.

As you can see, they are not as varied as Hasbro's Mini-Puft Surprise figures. They're not as detailed, either. That should not be a surprise given that they retail for around two bucks each, and that's a profit over the cost of the toy, the drink, and the packaging. So, don't expect something of the quality of Hasbro's offerings, which retail for five to six bucks.

Since they are cheap toys/figures, the quality will vary. Here are two of Puft #1. Notice the wonky paint job on the eyes for the guy on the right. Even the photo used in the checklist has wonky eyes. Maybe the guy with the "normal" eyes is the mispainted one :-)


After purchasing six bottles at Walmart on February 4th, and nine bottles at Target on April 1st, I now have the complete set of six, along with the mispainted "variant" figure.


The Ghostbusters: Afterlife Drink & Play bottles retail for $2.00 in Walmart and $2.19 in Target, but should be available from a wide variety of retailers. I don't have any definitive links to provide to you to buy them brand new, but I do have a few freshly-opened figures for sale, if you already started a collection and need to complete it.
