Ghostbusters: Afterlife Official Electronic Press Kit (B-Roll & Soundbites)

Both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II have Electronic Press Kits (EPK for short), which is a video reel sent to various media outlets (like TV News programs) for them to use to help promote a film. It usually contains a trailer, film clips, making of featurette, cast and crew interviews, behind the scenes footage, and other such stuff. Columbia Pictures produced EPKs for the original two films on videocassette. Nowadays, the studios just release the trailers and other video segments online for the press, like me. We've all seen the trailers for Ghostbusters: Afterlife (buy theater tickets here), but the other publicity materials for the film that would usually be on an EPK have not been seen by most. Thankfully, I found the B-Roll and Soundbites, and will share them with you today.

Since the Ghostbusters: Afterlife EPK materials are presented digitally, and not in a start-to-finish videocassette, there is no specific order for all of this. So, I'm using the Ghostbusters II EPK videocasette as a template for the ordering below. Runtimes are those given in each video's production card, which may differ slightly from the actual video file's runtime. I didn't bother downloading the film clips because they have all been uploaded to YouTube by Sony and other press outlets, so click on the individual titles to view them. The download link on the "Film Clips" title below is a temporary one that will expire in a year (November 16, 2022). At that point, we'll have the film on 4K and Blu-ray, so the film clips will be irrelevant, anyway. The trailers are all readily available online. I reviewed all of them here on Spook Central.

There is lots of fun stuff in the B-Roll, especially if you love Phoebe. Here is a quick list of notes I made while watching it.

• Right at the start you'll see that they never jumped a real Ectomobile. I don't think it would have survived :-)

• Mckenna and Logan are so cute play swordfighting with each other. Really love Mckenna pretending there's blood spurting out of her. "Blood... blood... and eventual, death. And the revival!"

• Look for the RTV crossing in front of Spinners in the Ecto shot at 3:53.

• At 7:02, a waitress at the Chinese restaurant where Callie and Gary go on their date is doused in slime for a scene that may or may not be in the film. (If it is, it's a quick shot during the Muncher chase.)

• An alternate take(?) appears at 7:14, where Gary tells the kids of the Manhattan Crossrip event, adding that "they made a movie about it in the '90s". I don't think that line was in the movie.

• This is followed (at 7:32) by a shot of Podcast trying to use a ruler to pry open the Ghost Trap, which I think was also removed from the film. (A gif of the shot was used as promotion during the film's lengthy gestation period.)

• At 8:13, you'll see that Dan Aykroyd was on set for the sheriff station scene. Not a surprise considering his daughter Stella played Deputy Medjuck in that scene. That appears to be her standing next to him. (Her face is cut out of the footage.)

• I wish we could hear the song Mckenna was playing on the ukulele at 10:04, but the audio was muted by Sony to avoid music rights issues. Logan Kim sure was enjoying it! If they do a sequel to Saturday Night Fever starring kids, sign him up.

• Testing out the PKE Shocker prototype at 11:07. Yes, it was a legit stun gun.

• I love the Twilight Zone: The Movie reference on the shirt of one of the Terror Dog sculptors. It's very fitting considering the Dan Aykroyd connection.
