Spook Central 14th Anniversary

It was fourteen years ago this month, in August 1996, that I created Spook Central in my rinky-dink Geocities account. It was nothing big - just a picture of the library ghost, on a banana yellow background, with some links below it - but it was a start. To help celebrate the occasion, I've reached out to a few of my corporate friends, and dug through my personal collection, to gather up a few prizes to give out to the fans. The Spook Central 14th Anniversary Prize Giveaway runs from now until August 7th, which should be plenty of time to get your entry in (one per person and/or e-mail address).

PRIZES PROVIDED BY: On Location Tours, StickerYou, and Paul's Merchandise For Sale

P.S. - If you want to see what the actual Ghostbusters 25th Anniversary and Spook Central retro logo printed stickers look like, Jason at GB News just posted a photo he took of the two stickers I gave him.

Image To help celebrate the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest ghost movies ever made - GHOSTBUSTERS - the long-running website, Spook Central: The Ghostbusters Companion, held a prize giveaway from June 8th (the 25th anniversary of Ghostbusters' U.S. theatrical release) to June 22nd 2009 to honor the momentous occasion. Spook Central teamed up with the leading producers of Ghostbusters merchandise to offer up a bevy of giveaways, which included copies of Ghostbusters: The Video Game from Atari, print and digital guides for the video game from Prima Games, Ghostbusters: The Other Side trade paperbacks from IDW Publishing, "There Is No Dana, Only Zuul" T-shirts from Fright Rags, The Real Ghostbusters Volume 1 DVD sets from Time-Life, wall graphics and game skins from Gamer Graffix, and lots of items that Spook Central webmaster Paul Rudoff pulled from his personal collection and For Sale site.

The contest was a greater success than I could have ever imagined. There were 648 eligible entries for the main U.S. & Canada contest (plus 30 ineligible entries), and 26 eligible entries for the side International contest (plus 7 ineligible entries). Below is the full list of winners, along with a brief description of what prize package they won. For more information on the individual prizes, check out the prize image gallery. For legal and reference purposes, a copy of the original official rules can be found on page 2.

Ghostbusters 25th Anniversary - Contest Open & Online Movie Showings

Ghostbusters 25th Anniversary

THIS IS IT, THIS IS DEFINITELY IT!!

It was twenty-five years ago today, on Friday June 8, 1984 (not June 3rd, as that was a Sunday back then), that U.S. moviegoers first saw the ugly little spud attack, a terrifying dog running wild through Central Park, and a giant marshmallow man take a stroll down the streets of New York City. You have to wonder what those audiences thought when they first saw those spectacular sights and sounds that we Ghostbusters fans now take for granted. The shock, awe, and wonder they must have experienced had to have been amazing.

To help celebrate the momentous occasion, Spook Central has teamed up with the leading producers of Ghostbusters merchandise to give fans a plethora of prizes. Spook Central's Ghostbusters 25th Anniversary Prize Giveaway runs from now until June 22nd, which should be plenty of time for fans to submit their entry (one per person and/or e-mail address).

But that's not all as fans have double...nay, TRIPLE the chance to win something good.

Proton Charging's Ghostbusters 25th Anniversary Prize Giveaway will be running from June 16th through June 26th (the day after my birthday). All you have to do is head on over there, send him an e-mail with the proper subject line, and you're in. Nice and simple.

A little more involving is Ghostbusters Fans' Twitter Contest. For this contest, which runs from June 13th to July 1st, you need to (1) Follow @gbfans on Twitter, (2) Post this on your Twitter: Follow @gbfans for the Latest Ghostbusters News, Trivia, Quotes and More!, and (3) Participate in #ghostbustersfriday by posting your favorite GB quote with: #ghostbustersfriday @gbfans

Image

Since we all can't go back in time to view it at the theater (the obvious back-in-time Land of the Lost pun in relation to that marquee pic up there was not intended), and in case it isn't showing on a big screen near you, I present to you two online viewing options.

Entire Movie: Theatrical Version (1 hour 45 minutes)
Entire Movie: TV Version (ABC Broadcast on Jan. 29, 1989 - with commercials, 2 hours)
This broadcast is "edited for television" and contains all of the alternate footage.
