If I Were A Witch Man is in the correct speed, the only parts that are not at the correct speed are the opening and closing credits. Those parts are slowed down.

Episodes Victor the Happy Ghost, The Two Faces of Slimer, and Big Trouble With Little Slimer are available digitally on certain download sites like Amazon, iTunes, and Google Play. I did research on the 2016 digital releases of the show. 5 episodes were not included on the DVD's, but are available digitally.

Yeah, that was new to me, too. I just found out about the it the other day when I was writing this article. I always knew about the blurring - which has been present since the 1978 theatrical release - but did not know about the "better" alteration.

There are two stories going around about the blurring. One says that they went to Coke for permission and was denied due to the lewd content of the film. The other says that Pepsi was a sponsor of the film and was none-too-happy about the Coke signage. Either way, it was too costly to go back and re-film the scenes, so they resorted to blurring. The technology to do that in 1978 provided rather clumsy results.

Some say that the product placement contract with Pepsi has since expired, so if Paramount went back to the original unblurred negative, they could now use it as is. I don't know if that's true or not. I do think that if they went back to Coke now for permission, they would probably grant it since "Grease" has become a bit of a cultural institution.

Of course, Coke would probably want some money in return, and Paramount doesn't want to pay. They probably didn't have to pay Pepsi anything since they were an original sponsor, so changing them to Pepsi posters seemed like the cheaper option. As much as I hate alteration, I have to admit, changing the posters seems like a better option than noticeable blurring. I hope it looks seamless in motion. (I don't own the movie.)

The whole thing about all of this that makes me think is: Why did they film the movie with all of this Coke signage to begin with? It's not like it's one small little sign. There's a HUGE poster on the wall, a smaller one (I think), the logo on the side of a soda machine, and one more logo on a menu board. That's a LOT of Coke signage to simply "not notice" during filming!

That Grease Coke-to-Pepsi alteration was unknown to me, and is frankly terrifying.

Sorry, Patrick. I didn't notice that this was a post about that original set of DVDs Sony released in 2006. Anyway, YES, "Killerwatt" has its title card on the "Creatures of the Night" DVD. (All eps on the 3 DVDs have title cards, otherwise I would have made a note about it.) The series music version of "The Bird of Kildarby" is on there, too. So, if you're a completist, you'll want to pick up a copy to go along with the TimeLife set (which has the Tahiti music version of "Kildarby" and, of course, no title card for "Killerwatt"). I updated my page for the TimeLife set to note all of this. I have no idea why I didn't earlier. I guess I just never noticed since the TimeLife set kinda made the 3 Sony DVDs (otherwise) irrelevant :-) - Paul

I know the title card for Killerwatt wasn't included on the episode for the Complete Collection, I was talking about the "Creatures of the Night" DVD when I did my comment. I wasn't sure if it had the title card included or not.

Hi Jim

As stated in this 9 year old post, Gene Wilder was not in the game. That was an old rumor I was debunking.

Joel Murray was in the game, but I don't know which character he voiced.

Well, scratch that. After several weeks of sitting on my shelf unopened, I decided to return the Sony volume 1 to 5 box set. For what it is, it just needlessly takes up far too much physical space (worth noting I have other animated TV series that managed to fit 5 discs inside one regular size DVD case!). I would assume Sony did it this way to fool people into thinking, incorrectly, it's the Time Life version repackaged. Is it a coincidence both are 5 volumes with nearly identical cover art? I think not.

As mentioned, my interest is mainly in season 1 and 2, but looking more closely, this is *20* episodes short to make it complete. Then there is the issue of the missing title cards, commercial bumpers, and Tahiti music in one episode.

I may consider purchasing the new 10 volume box set if/when it drops in price. At least it's 1/3rd the physical size and only missing 3 episodes from season 1 and 2. Although I doubt it will improve on this set, other than throwing in twice the number of volumes in a much smaller footprint.

Incidentally, to the question asked above. These episodes on disc appear to be in production order, NOT air-date order. And season 2's episodes extend onto volumes 6 and 7 (you're only getting about 70% of those season 2 episodes in this box set).

Ok, I looked at your review of the other home video versions of this movie and see just by the screenshot comparisons that the 2005/2006 DVD is definitely the worst of the bunch as far as GHOSTBUSTERS (1984) goes. Weird that GB2 (1989) would look that much better. Thank you for the thorough input you provide regarding all of the GHOSTBUSTERS home video releases.

I could've sworn you were highly against the 2005/2006 Ghostbusters release(s). Maybe I'm confusing you with someone else? Someone named Paul(?)(I think?) was all over ProtonCharging rip saying how the colors of the 2005/2006 DVD(s) were modified or something...does that only apply to the 1st one?
I'm not sure how it's surprising that the GBII soundtrack re-release flew under the radar. I'm sure it was taken out of print for a perfectly logical reason. It's not a sign of ill will toward the music or the album itself. It just means sales aren't high enough. I doubt it was on the Billboard Top 200 as soon as it came back into print. It probably made a small amount of revenue for Universal's Music division, and put a smile on a small qty of people's faces, which is what keeps people ponying up the dough. There's lots of Ghsotbusters merchandise that flys under my radar. Being an aging music buff myself, the GBII OST didn't.
