I'm A Crapper, She's A Crapper, Wouldn't You Like To Be A Crapper Too?

Permalink Feb. 17, 2012 at 11:30 PM , Categories: Personal, Internet
Wrestlecrap.com,the internet's premiere wrestling humor site, has chronicled the worst in professional wrestling for the past decade. Regular visitors to the site and its forum are called Crappers, and I'm proud to admit that I'm a Crapper. I even own all three Wrestlecrap books. Wrestlecrap is the only non-Ghostbusters website that I visit on a weekly basis, and I was quite surprised by the entry in today's It Came From Youtube! column:

I submitted this video months ago and never thought it would ever get used on the site. It actually surprised me to see my name up there. I literally thought, "Holy crap, that's me!" This isn't even the first time that I got something published on Wrestlecrap. I had my letters appear in the now-defunct RD's Mailbag/RD's Ramblings column on January 9, 2004, May 14, 2004, and December 10, 2004. Yikes! Three in one year, then it takes me over seven years to make another appearance on the site. Looks like I better get crackin' on putting together the info on the bootleg WWE coloring books I bought so maybe I can make the Someone Bought This column this year!

The NYGB ComicGuide Resurrection

Permalink Dec. 28, 2011 at 5:42 AM , Categories: Internet, Books
NYGB ComicGuide

For most of the 2000s, Chris Buchner ran two sites: the NYGB Tourguide and the NYGB ComicGuide. The former focused on the New York City filming locations from both movies, while the latter focused on all of the Ghostbusters comic books ever published. When I say "all" I mean ALL! All of NOW's books, all of 88MPH's books, all of Marvel books released in the UK (and their derivatives), and even all of First's Filmation books! Not only did the site cover all of the issues, it even went very in-depth with each one, giving you the credits, story synopses, trivia, bloopers, character photos, and more!

Unfortunately, on October 31, 2008, AOL shutdown their AOL Hometown web hosting service, and thus both sites left the internet, along with other AOL members' websites. Luckily for the Ghostbusters Online Community, I had saved copies of both sites. With Chris' permission, I've incorporated a lot of the Tourguide information into Spook Central's Filming Locations pages, though you can find some archived copies of the original site on the Internet Archive.

A few days before the shutdown, on October 28, 2008, I downloaded all of the ComicGuide files. Due to the way AOL handled their web hosting service, the site was actually split across a few different user accounts. I attempted to merge all of the download files into one computer folder... and let's just say that the results weren't pretty. Because there were a lot of files with the same names, they couldn't all be put into one folder "as is". I had to rename almost all of the files, which also meant that I would have to go in and edit every html file so that all of the new file names are referenced in links and the such. I didn't have the time to do the task, so the files sat untouched on my hard drive for a few years.

Around this time last year I saw a post by Fritz Baugh on the GB Fans forum where he mentioned the ComicGuide site by name and lamented over the loss of the invaluable information it contained. Seeing that he had an interest in the site, I contacted him to see if he'd also be interested in fixing up all of the files I saved a few years prior, with the intention of making it all available to the public again. I figured that he'd turn me down, as the files required a lot of work, and it would be a very tedious task. Surprisingly, and much to his credit, he accepted my offer.

So, now, three years and two months after AOL took it down, I am proud to present... The Resurrected NYGB ComicGuide (last updated September 10, 2008, archived October 28, 2008). FYI: Don't expect to find any of IDW's books on the site, as they all came out after the site went into hibernation.

MAJOR THANKS to Chris Buchner for creating the site and giving me permission to host the old copy here on Spook Central, and especially to Fritz Baugh for doing the time-consuming and labor-intensive task of fixing up all of the files and making the site whole again.

Massimo, being the cool cat that he is, just did a little write up about Spook Central over on Ghostbusters Mania. I'm honored. Thanks, Massimo.

Even Pac-Man Knows Who To Call

Permalink Jan. 8, 2011 at 3:42 AM , Categories: Miscellaneous, Internet
Click "play" to watch this little Flash animation, which was found over on swfchan. Unfortunately, it's NOT an interactive game. This isn't the first time the Ghostbusters and Mr. Pac-Man met - as noted by the evidence here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here - and I bet that it certainly won't be the last.

Swfchan also has the interactive Ghostbusters: The Animated Series episodes 1, 2, 3, and 4, but there are some naughty ads on that site, so view with caution.

Ghostbusters United Franchise Hub Is Now Open

Permalink Nov. 27, 2010 at 4:41 AM , Categories: Fans, Internet
Ghostbusters United is a new site designed to be your one-stop hub for links to all of the known and worth-while Ghostbusters franchise teams all over the world. Find a group near you using either the interactive U.S. map or the International section. If you have a franchise, fill out the application to get your group listed on the site.

It's clean, simple, and to the point. Why can't everything be like this?

Oh, and FYI, I also added a link to it on the Misc Links page.

Ghostheads Podcast Mentions Spook Central 14th Anniversary

Permalink Aug. 31, 2010 at 3:58 AM , Categories: Spook Central, Fans, Internet

Excerpt from Episode 16 (August 27, 2010)

Jason Hughes and Luke Crisalli (with guest Pat Harmon) over at the Ghostheads podcast released their 16th episode this past Friday, and I am honored that they spent a couple of minutes talking about Spook Central's 14th Anniversary in the broadcast (from 25:55-28:06). It nearly brought a tear to my eye listening to what the guys had to say. I'm touched...really.

You can listen to the Spook Central excerpt by clicking on the little play arrow/button above, or if you have a desire to hear about Ghostbusters, Bjork, and liquefied gummy bears - and who doesn't? - head over to the Ghostheads site to listen to the entire 36-minute episode.

Ghostbusters Scribd Finds

Scribd is a free service that allows anyone to share any type of document (including PDF, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) with the world. A "Ghostbusters" search brings up 45+ pages of results - most of them crap. I spent a few hours skimming through the results to find the best stuff, and here's what I found. (If you want to download any of the PDFs on Scribd, you'll need a free account. You can get some public logins at BugMeNot.)
