Welcome to Spook Central's special Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Celebration. Today is the second "Shot On Site" article for the month. This Ghostbusters II location, which was found by Carl Ross, is unique in that the identification was done not through anything seen in the film, but rather through personal recollection and visual reference to the building across the street.

Ghostbusters Official Fan Club

PermalinkBy Paul Rudoff on Jun. 8, 2014 at 12:00 PM , Categories: Ghostbusters 1, Reviews & Merch, Fans
It didn't take long for Ghostbusters to take the world by storm. On July 3, 1984, less than a month after the film came out, an official Ghostbusters fan club was formed. Operated by Mark Lister and Jim Garvey of Swissvale, Pennsylvania, the fan club was formed when these two men paid Columbia Pictures an estimated $10,000 for the right to operate an official fan club. By August 1985, the fan club garnered more than 40,000 members worldwide, from England, France, Germany and Australia, as well as North America where membership was greatest. The first announcement appeared as one sentence in USA Today and provoked more than 2,000 calls in two days. A small television commercial was then aired prompting another 45,000 calls, in the span of just two more days. For the $8.95 registration fee, members received a personal membership card, the official Ghostbusters metal badge, a Certificate of Anti-Paranormal Proficiency, four "This Property Protected by Ghostbusters" color stickers, an Ectomobile sticker, a Ghostbusters logo patch, and a one-year subscription to the quarterly newsletter. The Official Trade Journal of Certified Ghostbusters was a full-size 34-page magazine containing fan letters, interviews with the actors, behind-the-scenes scoops, and articles on genuine Ghostbusting. (SIDE NOTE: Anyone have *any* of these newsletters? I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we'd all like to have PDF eBooks of these available online for all to enjoy. I'll be happy to host them here.)

Rather than just sending in your money and getting your swag, to become a member you had to fill out a ghostbusting job application, which featured four simple questions, such as: "The next time someone asks you if you're a god, say: A. Yes; B. Maybe, let me check; C. This chick is toast; D. Back off, man." No applicant was ever rejected, but Lister and Garvey did have to consider granting membership to Samantha - a dog who sent in her paw print as proof of her interest. Well, you need not worry about passing the application process. Now you, too, can get your official "Certificate Of Anti-Paranormal Proficiency" and show everyone that you're a Ghostbuster! Thanks to superfan Peter Mosen, I have my own certificate, which I scanned in and cleaned up for all of you to print out. Just print it out, write your name on the blank line, frame it, and hang it on the wall. All of your friends will be SO impressed!

Welcome to Spook Central's special Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Celebration. Today is the second event of the celebration and we have the first "Shot On Site" article since September of 2012 (and also the first written by someone other than Paul). Today it is a Ghostbusters II location I had found, however Paul provided the key screen cap to get the ball rolling. This one really came down to having the right information and screen caps to know you are in the right place. Another thing, using more than one online map provider helps.

Thanks to the Sony-Approved GhostbustersStore.com (operated by MyPlay Direct), we now have better looks at the two-film Digibook by itself, as well as the covers for the two single-film individual releases. (photos in this gallery) We also now have the MSRP's for the two-film Digibook ($26.99) and the two single-film individual releases ($19.99 each). Even cooler than that, if their information is correct, GB1 will include one more new bonus feature: Alternate Takes from TV Edited Version. Well, ain't that a knockabout of pure fun! As more information slowly comes in, stay tuned to the following Spook Central pages for updates: the page your reading now, Ghostbusters 2014 Blu-ray page, Ghostbusters II 2014 Blu-ray page.

Today also marks the premiere of the new Ghostbusters.com website, where fans can access new franchise offerings, including collectible merchandise, music, and more. Fans can register for updates, unique video content, as well as Ghostbusters news. There will also be a slew of new merchandise from Sony Pictures Consumer Products to be released. Collaborations include Lego, Mattel, Funko, Mad Engine and other select items to help celebrate the occasion. In addition, SPCP partnered with Gallery 1988 to create a once-in a lifetime experience, displaying original paintings, limited edition prints, and sculptures inspired by the film. Finally, Legacy Recordings / Sony Music Entertainment, will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic Ghostbusters soundtrack with multiple collectible vinyl LP releases this year.
